Entrepreneur Joette van der Hoeven: Lavender Fields Beauty Retreat, "Embracing the Beauty Within"
by Susan Klann

In the picturesque little town of Morrison, tucked into the foothills just southwest of Denver, Joette van der Hoeven has lovingly created a beauty retreat for women in a whimsical, lavender-colored Victorian home. Murals evoking the purplish hues of the lavender fields that inspired its name decorate the 1873-era cozy rooms.

Skillful lighting sets just the right mood, and each room is named for the mural adorning its walls: Fields of Gold for the massage room; Fields of Dreams for a second massage space where clients enjoy river stone and rain drop treatments, the retreatapostrophes specialties; and Lavender Fields, the business’s namesake, for the facial room. The full-service hair salon features a bay window with natural light flooding into the room, natural wood floors, and individual mirrors with a unique message over each station such as "Adored", "Loyal", or "Loved". The manicure/pedicure room, also on the main floor, exudes an air of seclusion and relaxation with its lavender-inspired murals. Set amidst each room are sculptures by Joetteapostrophes father, now 81.

The beauty retreat’s products honor entrepreneurs. The lavender product line arrives from France, and the Divine Nature mineral makeup cosmetics line is manufactured locally.

Lavender Fields Beauty Retreat was founded in July 2005 with the doors opening in October of that year. Joette has plenty of plans for the charming retreat and its environs. Like any entrepreneur sheapostrophes always hoping to bring more customers into her dreamy interiors, and she envisions additional opportunity in the roomy, pleasant backyard with its numerous apple trees. "As skin care and beauty treatments become more of a get-away time for girlfriends, weapostrophere offering more and more wonderful services," she says.

George, the dog—an extremely realistic sculpture of manapostrophes best friend curled up in the yard and named after the townapostrophes founder—adds a further touch of individuality to Lavender Fields. "Building the business has been a challenge, but spirit brought me here and has given me this chance to give back everything thatapostrophes been given to me," says Joette. "I want people to know that Morrison has so much to offer, with stores and restaurants, little specialty shops and so much more."

One of Lavender Fieldsapostrophe most successful offers right now involves a Pamper Me Package of $400 worth of services for just $100. Customers can select from Swedish Massage, Healing Touch, Acupuncture, Facial and Skin Analysis, Waxes, Hair Styles, or other services at a discount with the option to add on.
