6/4/2007At Networking Events, Women Do Business Their Way

ARVADA, CO: WomenOf.com, an online magazine for women, has launched a highly successful series of monthly networking events for women. Modeled on the synergies offered by its website, where women access information about topics ranging from career/business, personal finance, and fitness to parenting, personal growth, health care, beauty, fashion, and travel, WomenOf.com networking nights create and enhance social and professional opportunities. The events are held every fourth Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., allowing women to stop on their way home from work or take a break from their home base to renew old contacts or forge new ones in the spacious employee and conference area of WomenOf.com’s offices in Arvada.

Networking nights aren’t all business, however. “We recognize that women have different tastes and interests,” says Sharon Norwell, Vice President of WomenOf.com. Every month WomenOf.com invites boutiques and other vendors so that women can mix shop with talk. Fashion items, gift time-savers, business ideas, and beauty aids are just some of the businesses at recent networking nights. Women enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres during the evening.

“These events highlight the value of independent networking, while showcasing local business owners. After all, social networking is no different for women than playing golf and sharing cigars after a steak dinner is for men. Getting to know one another while browsing vendor products is a refreshing change from being the lone woman at a client dinner or sports event. As a result, we’ve seen tremendous growth at our events.”

For more information on networking nights or its vendor or sponsor opportunities, please call Sharon Norwell or e-mail sharon.norwell@womenof.com. For more information on WomenOf.com, go to www.womenof.com.

5/25/2003A network for women on Web

WomenOf.com survived the dot-com crash

By Kausalya Saptharishi, For the Camera May 25, 2003
http://www.dailycamera.com

Help is just a mouse click away for women looking for career advice or for tips on how to finance home businesses or for the coolest summer recipes.

WomenOf.com, a 6-year-old Arvada-based online weekly magazine for women, addresses issues such as career, travel, health, technology, legal issues, family matters, food and entertainment, among others.

"Weapostrophere committed to serving as a role model for younger women and for those already launched in their personal and professional lives," said Susan Klann, editor. "Our mission from the outset has been to serve as an online resource for women featuring editorial that enhances the quality of their personal and professional lives."

WomenOf.com was founded in 1997 by CounterTrade Inc., a woman-owned, high-tech company, and is presently operational under the Prosolutions Inc. umbrella, which lends the Web site technical support. A privately held company, WomenOf.com was launched for less than $25,000 and has no outside investors.

The Web site generates revenue mostly through advertising, online coupons, directory listings and corporate sponsorships, she said. Advertisements on WomenOf.com generally cost $600 per quarter, directory listings are $75 per annum, and an annual sponsorship of a category on the site, such as health, is $25,000. Corporate sponsorships on the Web site range from $10,000 to $100,000 depending on whether they are local or national.

The e-zineapostrophes conservative approach to operations has seen it through the dot-com crash, Klann said. "Weapostropheve had to make no cutbacks; in fact weapostrophere growing in terms of readership and advertising," she said. WomenOf.comapostrophes visitor-base has doubled in the last one year and averaged 100,000 sessions in March, Klann said.

Nearly 64 percent of women in the United States spend time online, according to a white paper prepared for MSN by comScore Networks last year. Younger women are almost twice as likely to be online than women over age 55, though the elder groupapostrophes use of the Net also is increasing, the study said.

Fifty percent of women online have college degrees and nearly a quarter of them have a graduate school degree, according to comScore.

WomenOf.comapostrophes national reader demographics comprise college-educated, working women who are 30 and older, with families and the majority of whom fall in the $50,000 plus income bracket, Klann said.

"But our target audience is in fact fairly broad, and I think thatapostrophes because women of all ages and types care about health, for example; and work-life balance affects nearly everyone," Klann said. "And women of all ages need to be wise about their finances - whether they are in their twenties and just starting saving for their children or retirement, or whether they are in mid-life and facing a divorce, for example."

Reader demographics is built using information gathered about visitors through weekly e-newsletters, Klann said.

"Weapostrophere unique, we think, in that we offer a local and national concept," Klann said. "We have our WomenOf.com nationally focused site, and our WomenOfColorado.com state-focused site where we provide local coverage of womenapostrophes happenings, businesses, and the like."

Since its inception, WomenOf.com has expanded into 18 other states, including California, Hawaii, Florida and Maryland. Efforts are underway to develop editorial content for these sister sites by relying on both local talent in each state as well as on WomenOf.com to generate the content, Klann said.

She said that career, business, profiles, recipes and health are some of the most popular features on WomenOf.com. Klann added that the content for the site is either generated in-house or comes from guest contributors.

The Web siteapostrophes "WomenOf the Month" section profiles women who are leaders in their fields, Klann said. "For example, Iapostrophem interviewing some of the women who are in Denver with the Women In the Fire Services national meeting," said Klann. "These women are incredible. They may not be household names, but they should be."

Networking with womenapostrophes groups, critical placement of the Web site on search engines and targeted mail efforts are some of the main channels through which WomenOf.com generates publicity, Klann said.

"Weapostrophere increasingly building partnerships with womenapostrophes groups to increase one anotherapostrophes strengths, said Klann. "Itapostrophes sort of womenapostrophes way - networking and relationships."

6/19/1997WomenOfColorado.com is Dynamic New Magazine for Women Online

Denver, CO -- "What makes WomenOfColorado.com unique is the ability to provide local editorial and advertising venues on the Internet," comments publisher Bonnie Walder. Walder, who has experience in publishing womenapostrophes magazines, both in print and on the Internet, created the editorial format several years ago. She has joined with ProSolutions, Inc. to provide readers and advertisers, as well as sister publications, with state-of-the-art technology, design, and demographic information.

The demographics of WomenOfColorado.com is what excites advertisers: primarily higher income levels, college graduates, the coveted age group of 35 to 54 coupled with computer access, full-time working, and homeowners. The editorial format is what achieves those demographics. Women from the area, most of whom are not professional writers, who are accomplished in a variety of disciplines, write about what they know. The magazine also provides the writers an opportunity to acquaint the community with talents which may not be apparent in their typical duties. Regular editorial departments include career, fashion, health, family matters, personal development, interior design, technology, legal issues, food, entertainment, book reviews, travel, and more, plus links to many other web sites.

WomenOfColorado.com has secured the support of a number of important Corporate Sponsors, including Burt Automotive Network, Colorado Womenapostrophes Leadership Coalition, Colorado Womenapostrophes Chamber of Commerce, Columbia Colorado Division, Computer Equipment Warehouse, Internet Chamber of Commerce, KIM 100.3 FM Radio, King Soopers, Norwest Banks, Options Catering, Park Meadows Shopping Center, Rocky Mountain Internet, Rocky Mountain News, and Sloans Lake Managed Care.

The first issue of WomenOfColorado.com went online June 1, 1997, and features such notable writers as Adele Arakawa of KUSA-TV, Channel 9 in Denver, Lieutenant Governor for the State of Colorado, Gail Schoettler, United States Congresswoman Diana DeGette, agent for Amy Van Dyken, Janey Miller of Gold Medal Management, Jo Myers, morning DJ with KIM 100.3 FM Radio, and a favorite personality in the womenapostrophes business community, Darlene Letey of the Hewlett-Packard Co. The site can be accessed at: http://www.womenofcolorado.com.

The magazine is the model for several publications scheduled to be online by the end of the year. WomenOfWashington.com, WomenOfUtah.com, and WomenOfArizona.com are the first areas with local editors appointed by ProSolutions, Inc., which has trademarked the "WomenOf.com™" name. Additional cities and states are soon to have local editors. In addition to the trademark name, ProSolutions, Inc. has secured the names of the important cities and states with InterNIC, the international "clearinghouse" for authorization to use internet or web addresses.

"Now, the national, and even international, audience will see the talents of the women in Colorado and the strength of itapostrophes womenís business community," states Walder. WomenOfColorado.com will supply approximately 80 percent of the editorial for its sister publications; the remainder of the editorial for the new publications will come from their respective local communities.
