Women Chefs & Restaurateurs Bestow Awards for Excellence

Women Chefs & Restaurateurs (WCR) announced the recipients of its fourth annual 2003 Women Who Inspire Awards. The annual WCR Women Who Inspire Awards are meant to inspire present and future generations of women chefs and restaurateurs. WCR strives to recognize achievement within the industry and pay tribute to those women who have demonstrated excellence in the kitchen, dining room, beverage profession, baking and pastry arts, community affairs, growing and producing, and for a lifetime of culinary excellence.

New for 2003, The WCR Golden Plow Award recognizes excellence in growing or producing from nature###s bounty; honoring a woman whose skill in farming or making artisanal products results in food that graces our plates while respecting the environment.

Winners are:

The award recipients are characterized by passion, service, dedication and innovation within the industry. To be considered for an award, each nominee###s professional work must have served as an inspiration to other women in the industry. All women involved in the foodservice industry were eligible for nomination.

Previous Women Who Inspire award recipients include Lidia Bastianich, Beth Casey, Terri Hutter, Andrea Immer, Madeline Kamman, Melissa Kelly, Kathy King, Michela Larson, Barbara Lazaroff, Edna Lewis, Emily Luchetti, Nancy Russman, Amy Scherber, Barbara Tropp, and Alice Waters.

WCR was founded in 1993 by eight prominent female chefs and restaurateurs with the mission of promoting the education and advancement of women in the restaurant industry and the betterment of the industry as a whole. As it celebrates its tenth anniversary, WCR###s membership of more than 2,000 professionals represents all sectors of the industry, from culinary students to restaurant owners.
