WomanOf The Month 10-09: Candy Coburn

After watching her grandmother battle breast cancer, singer-songwriter and entertainer Candy Coburn became passionate about contributing to the global fight against breast cancer. Inspired by her grandmother’s battle, Candy joined with three fellow female songwriters—Kaci Bolls, Candy Cameron, and Roxie Dean--to create “Pink Warrior” as a tribute to the courageous men and women who have been touched by the disease.

In June 2009, Candy Coburn performed the single “Pink Warriorapostrophe during the survivor ceremony at the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure® on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. This performance also marked the official release of the single for digital download and launched it as an anthem for anyone who is in the fight against cancer.

Candy is now a Susan G. Komen for the Cure Ambassador and is in a partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, sharing in Komen’s promise of creating a world without breast cancer and committed to raising awareness among her fans of the ongoing fight to end breast cancer forever.

In addition, 100% of all artist and producer proceeds from “Pink Warrior, apostrophe a minimum of 40 cents per download, will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Since 1982, Komen for the Cure has invested more than $1.3 billion in cancer research and community health programs, pledging another $2 billion during the next decade.

More than 120 Komen for the Cure Affiliates provide millions of dollars each year to address unmet breast health needs in local communities in order to close the gaps in breast health.

Candy Coburn performs more than 175 days per year in front of tens of thousands and is blown away by the breast cancer stories she hears after singing “Pink Warriorapostrophe.

Shortly after she performed the song live for the first time, she began to hear from people who had been touched by it.

“I had probably 10 women come up and thank me for the song. I am so honored to be a part of this amazing organization for those fighting this terrible disease, apostrophe said Candy Coburn. “I canapostrophet wait to see how we can use “Pink Warriorapostrophe as an anthem for hope and promise around the world.apostrophe

“I think I have met the strongest-willed women and families of these women I have ever known, apostrophe said Candy during a recent interview, “Never giving up like I saw my grandmother do is something that is amazing! I truly believe the will to fight is the reason she had such an amazing full life through all of her treatment.

Candy mentioned being shocked at the numbers of young women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. “I have met young women on the road that look like they could be in high school that tell their stories of being diagnosed very young. I am proud to see the "pink ribbon" tattoos showing they are survivors!apostrophe

“This is the single most rewarding thing I have done in my career! It is amazing to see that some small little song can bring some hope and encouragement to the thousands of people affected by breast cancer. I feel so blessed to be able to have a tiny part in an organization that has helped so many!apostrophe

Candy’s message to all fans is, “Do something you love with your life, be passionate about the life you’re given, and surround yourself with people that inspire and support you! Do something to make a difference!apostrophe
